Hello world 🌸
As promised, today I’m gonna write about photography. In my description on About me, I already told you that I prefer fashion photography. The reason I love it so much is because I love bringing the models essence into the picture. Meaning, if we are set in a studio (where I actually prefer working, mainly because I set EVERYTHING the way I imagined) and we decide to shoot an act. I want their body to express exactly how they feel in it. I want to capture the way they move into a still picture. I won’t be satisfied until their energy is in those pictures, showing their true being.
I asked myself many times why do I love photography so much? The pictures I take don’t “do” anything, they don’t serve a specific purpose (if you don’t count a book for a model or to decorate a magazine)… So for a long time, I answered with “I don’t know, I just do.” But I started to watch myself on sets, what gets me going? And I discovered that photography truly is an art. What does the painter do with his/hers pictures after they spend hours painting them? They decorate. Same as digital photography. And the meaning of art is not to have a purpose in the world, but to let artist express themselves. Why do people love art so much other than they can literally feel the energy, the essence of the artist?
It is true that digital photography captures the essence not just from the artist, but from the model/nature… too. And in a way, I look at my work as music. Mixing my tones with theirs. Trying to make the model feel as comfortable as I can, so they can relax and really show themselves in the picture I take.
Today I also wanted to show you my latest work. It was for my graduation. I did a theme of a black swan. Actually, is white swan turning into a black swan. The first thing my mentor said when I told her, is: “Wasn’t that supposed to be the other way around?”. And that is the only reason I did it. I like to go the opposite way of “supposed to”. I created a short story with it and it goes something like this:
Stars only shine in the darkness
An innocent girl – in love with the ballet – afraid of the dark, has started to feel her darkness too. Terrified of the call from it. But can’t look away, can’t run from it anymore. Finally, she dove in. Flowing in her darkness, learning it’s ways… And once she wasn’t afraid anymore, she found out – she can shine through the darkness as well. ⭐️
